The Company Hierarchy In a company, data flows up — worker to supervisor to management — and orders flow down. Everyone knows their level and who owns what. Building automation stacks in the very same three levels, and a device's level tells you who is responsible for it. The levels are a map of responsibility as much as of hardware. The Three Levels ``` MANAGEMENT LEVEL servers, front-end, integration, IT AUTOMATION LEVEL DDC controllers, logic, schedules FIELD LEVEL sensors, actuators, field devices data flows UP; commands flow DOWN ``` Placing a Device ``` A sensor -> field level (controls contractor) A DDC -> automation level (controls contractor) A server / BMS -> management level (often shared with IT) ``` Know the level, and you know who owns the device — clear levels make clear integration boundaries.Related Topics
