BAS vs BMS vs IBMS — Clearing the Confusion

The Founder's Explanation (Teach Exactly This Way)
"In a school — the teacher runs one class, that is BAS. The principal manages all classes, that is BMS. And the education board over many schools, all subjects, all rules — that is IBMS. Same education, but each bigger circle covers more. Do not mix the words, or the tender asks for a teacher and gets a board."Teaching the Concept
Teacher, Principal, Education Board A teacher runs one class. A principal manages all the classes in the school. An education board oversees many schools and every subject. Each is a wider circle around the one before — and BAS, BMS and IBMS work the same way. They are a ladder of scope, not three rival products. The Scope Ladder ``` BAS automation/control of the plant BMS management around BAS: monitoring, trends, reporting IBMS integration of many subsystems on one platform (HVAC + fire + access + CCTV + lifts) BAS < BMS < IBMS ``` Writing Each Into a Spec ``` Need plant control only -> specify BAS scope Need building-wide management -> specify BMS scope Need cross-system interlocks -> specify IBMS scope ``` Name the rung you need and the scope stops sliding — a ladder, not a lottery.Related Topics
