"See, a controller has fixed number of points — like a plug board at home has fixed sockets. Today you bought one more fan, one more charger — sockets over. You will not break the wall and rewire the whole house for that. You take one extension board, plug it in, now more sockets. IO module is that extension board for the controller. Brain is same — only the points, the hands and legs, we are adding."

Teaching the Concept

The Extension Board at Home Your house was wired with a fixed number of power sockets. It was enough — until you bought a fridge, a printer, a second charger. Now every socket is full. Do you break the wall and rewire the whole house for two more plugs? No. You buy one extension board, plug it into an existing socket, and now you have more points. The house wiring is untouched. The work continues. A BMS controller faces the exact same problem. What Is an IO Module? A DDC controller has a fixed number of terminals — so many AI, AO, DI, DO. One day the plant needs two more sensors and a valve, and every terminal is used. You do not rip out the controller. You add an IO module — the extension board of the BMS. The brain stays in the controller; the module only gives it more hands and eyes. ``` IO MODULE = MORE POINTS, SAME BRAIN AI read a sensor (temperature, pressure, %RH) AO drive a device (valve, damper actuator) DI read on/off (status, fault, flow switch) DO start/stop (pump, fan, relay) ``` Why Not Just Add a New Controller? A new controller has its own brain — its own program, address, another device to maintain. For a few points, that is like building a second house to get two more sockets. ``` Need more points near a controller -> IO MODULE (extension) Need its own logic / a new zone -> NEW CONTROLLER (new house) ``` One IO module lets a building grow one point at a time — without ever stopping the plant that is already running.
