What Is an OPC UA Gateway in a BMS?

The Founder's Explanation (Teach Exactly This Way)
"At a border, a translator does not only translate — he also fills your form in the correct format the office needs, and checks your passport. An OPC UA gateway is that translator at the border between the building and the IT world. It takes BACnet or Modbus points, turns them into proper OPC UA objects, and secures the crossing."Teaching the Concept
The Translator at the Border A good translator at a border does more than translate — he fills your form in the format the office needs and checks your passport. An OPC UA gateway is that translator between the building's field devices and the enterprise IT world. It lifts field data up as self-describing objects, over one secured crossing. What It Does ``` IN BACnet / Modbus field points MAP tags -> named, typed OPC UA objects OUT OPC UA server for IT / enterprise / cloud SECURE certificates + encryption at the crossing ``` Beyond Translation ``` Modelling raw tags become self-describing objects Security one secured, certificate-based crossing Isolation OT stays on its own network; only the gateway bridges to IT ``` An OPC UA gateway is the translator at the OT/IT border — data crosses once, modelled and secured.Related Topics
